Children’s Mercy Initiative was an idea brought up by Mwanje Godfrey from Uganda who is working as the director of the project. This came about when Mwanje Godfrey was in family of two boys and grew with their  mother who was taking care of them and wanted to teach them to be better in future but she couldn’t make it because of the challenges she faced basically financial challenges.

Mwanje had a friend Ibrahim who was from different family and were good friends. Unfortunately Mwanje was not attending school due financial crisis amongst his family so he had to get some jobs to work in order to join eligibility with his mother so that they can support his young brother to attend school.  Ibrahim help Mwanje to get a job in his father’s company which distributing airtime cards in different areas to get commission. This helped him to improve on the family income and also helped him to think of other people who are in the same situation as his majorly at a young age.

This is where the idea of starting a community based organization to help those in need came in mind. Today, Mwanje, his  mother and another young lady called Nannozi Suzan have started up Children’s Mercy Initiative in order to help children who are orphans, vulnerable and homeless and this happened in 2016.

The Centre acts as a stable, supportive and loving home for around 100 orphaned and vulnerable children, providing shelter, food, clothing, education and health care to most needy children in community. It is run by three people and is supported by charitable donations from abroad, as well as donations from the local community.
